The WAGOOS coordinates and improves local knowledge of coastal seas in the Indian and Southern Oceans off Western Australia. At present, it is an informal body consisting of university, industry, and government agency representatives. The goal is to establish the GOOS in Western Australia to benefit the State and Australia as a whole. WAGOOS can make various global products and applications available to those requiring it in the region. WAGOOS will also seek to implement ocean and coastal observing systems, data management systems and modelling to support GOOS in general and regional requirements specifically. Background
WAGOOS was established in 1999. It is not formally a GOOS Regional Alliances (GRA), however performs the function of a GRA in support of GOOS. It focuses on that region lying off western and northern Australia and seeks to develop useful products and applications related to marine environmental information. WA GOOS comprises approximately: 40 individuals and 26 organisations.
